PNP red-tags activists under guise of Anti-Cybercrime, Anti-Drug talk in HAU

The Philippine National Police – Police Regional Office 03 (PNP PRO3) labels activists as part of communist-terrorist groups (CTGs) in a supposed to be seminar on anti-cybercrime and anti-drugs measure laws at the SJH Academic Hall of Holy Angel University (HAU) yesterday, September 22.

The seminar was organized by HAU in collaboration with College of Criminal Justice Education and Forensics (CCJEF), Office of Student Affairs (OSA), and PNP PRO3.

Among the individuals who have been red-tagged include labor activist Kara Taggaoa who was detained last year due to trumped-up charges of direct assault.

According to attendee testimonials, the seminar, which started with a brief introduction on online scams followed by a discussion on the use of illegal drugs, turned into a lecture in which one of the speakers ruled out various youth activists and student organizations as CTGs.

The speaker Gemma Labsan, a teacher and graduate of Business Administration, claims to be a mother of a 16-year old student journalist who was recruited by her adviser to join Anakbayan – UP Diliman.

As required by OSA, the talk was attended by members of HAU’s student organizations, publications, councils, and CCJEF students.
