TRIGGER WARNING: Suicide

Another stud dies from blended learning

Last November 20, an 18-year-old student from Guimba, Nueva Ecija was discovered lifeless and hanging by his family.

Christian was a hardworking Grade 12 student and a sepak takraw player of Our Lady of Sacred Heart College. Before his death, he had already expressed a strong disapproval towards modular activities based on chat conversations with his friends.

According to his father, Chrisian struggled to keep up with his studies. He strongly believes that his son’s modular activities were the one to blame for his death. He was occupied in studying his modules from Monday to Sunday, where he was expected to accomplish them all in a simultaneous exchange for more modular activities for the succeeding week. Apart from these modules, he was also overworked with additional performance tasks.

He also stated that their area has internet connectivity issues that gave Christian a harder time to do his research. He usually had to go outdoors at night just to catch a decent signal.

The father also pointed out that whenever he sees his son struggling, he struggles too. There was no family nor any other relationship problem that burdened him. Christian is among the growing list of suicide cases amidst the opening of A.Y. 2020-2021. The Department of Education is yet to confront these occurrences with concrete actions.
