Kabataan defies Marcos’ ban on political clothing

Kabataan Partylist (KPL) Representative Raoul Manuel flaunts his protest barong in the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. This is in spite of the fact that wearing garments with political themes was prohibited as per SONA instructions.

“Bawal ang protesta, bawal din ang mensahe sa damit kasi takot na takot sa art? Martial Law yaaarn?” Manuel upbraided.

In addition, he stated that this is the first time in recent history that an explicit ban has been imposed.

“In line with the first State of the Nation Address of Marcos Jr., Kabataan Partylist seeks to bring to light the legitimate demands of the youth through the specially prepared outfit for Kabataan Rep. Raoul Manuel,” says KPL in their statement.

They also added that the theme depicts the continual flow of youth’s energy, hope, struggle, and optimism in advancing education, livelihood, health, and human rights, among other topics.

“In simple terms, the outfit shouts: “Tuloy ang laban, pag-asa ng bayan!” KPL said.

The political artwork on the Barong Filipino was crafted by Albert Raqueño, a member of the KPL National Office.
