SHTM Seniors initiate ‘Mekeni Mangan Tamu’ for a cause

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) Events Management (EM) Seniors organized “Mekeni Mangan Tamu,” a Merienda for a Cause event, held at Saint Therese of Lisieux Hall’s Casa Nena on October 14, Friday.

The seniors of the EM program spearheaded the event in collaboration with the Culinary and Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) students and Cafe Juan trainees.

The dine-in was open to all students and faculty members who acquired the ticket. Various dishes were prepared and served by the students such as pasta, Filipino delicacies, Champorado, and Halo-Halo along with the festive Filipino set-up of the place.

Alysa Denisse Valencia, an EM Senior and the event manager, shared that the beneficiaries of the activity are the elementary students of Abelardo G. Tino Elementary School (AGTES). A feeding program will be conducted in their adopted community from the proceeds.

Valencia also believes that this kind of event is important to bring out the “flair” within them considering that numerous physical events were postponed because of the pandemic and activities were shifted online.

“For some eto din yung first physical event nila sa school na nag-cater sila ng ganun type of service to which napakita nila yung skills nila, not only that, but more so yung passion ng bawat isa,” said Valencia.

Moreover, she acknowledged that these conduct of activities can help the lower years of SHTM to see how their Seniors work to aid and support them once it’s their turn to manage alike events.
