Pangasinan groups assails second coal plant

Progressive, environmentalist, and activist organizations submit a petition opposing a 1000-megawatts coal power plant project spearheaded by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) that is set to be constructed on Brgy. Baquioen, Sual, Pangasinan.

According to the unity statement of the concerned groups, they are demanding the Local Government of Pangasinan to reject KEPCO’s coal power plant project.

Other than adverse effects on health and the environment, the railroading of the power plant is set to displace thousands of farmers and fisherfolks.

The group is also demanding the LGU to formulate an energy plan that is responsive to the needs of the marginalized sectors in Pangasinan and to work with local scientists, and civic groups in transitioning to renewable energy.
